Swing Bed
Kentucky River Medical Center knows the value of remaining close to home when receiving care for an extended period of time, here at Kentucky River Regional Medical center we offer a swing bed program as an extended care option to meet the individual needs of patients who are in a transition phase of illness or recovery. Patients may be able to participate in the program if their medical needs cannot be met at home or in a long-term care facility, but their condition no longer requires a stay in an acute care setting. We provide continued rehabilitation and recovery services that are designed to meet each patient’s needs.
After completion of an acute care three-night qualifying stay, the Joint Commission certified program allows patients to rehabilitate in a hospital setting for an extended period of time while remaining close to home. This may include care after an acute stroke, after orthopedic type surgeries like a total joint replacement or fixation of a fracture, or after acute medical illness that required hospitalization. Patients receive around-the-clock care from the nursing staff. Based upon their individualized care plans, they can also receive therapy, laboratory, respiratory, radiology, and wound care services in one convenient, family-oriented atmosphere. The patient’s specialist will continue to remain involved in their care, with on-site consultations or visits to their office.
